Will I be a critical parent? - Family

Here is a poem. Decide what type of parent you will be…

Which Parent Will I Be?
~Author Unknown~

“I got two A’s,” the small boy cried.
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very bluntly asked,
“Why didn’t you get three?”

“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,”
The girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said,
“Did you sweep the floor?”

“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy said,
“And put the mower away.”
His father asked him, with a shrug,
“Did you clean off the clay?”

The children in the house next door seem happy and content.
The same thing happened over there,
And this is how it went:

“I got two A’s,”
the small boy cried,
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very proudly said,
“That’s great, I’m glad you belong to me.”

“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,”
The girl called from the door.
Her mother smiled and softly said,
“Each day I love you more.”

“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy said,
“And put the mower away.”
His father answered with much joy,
“You’ve made my day happy.”

Children deserve a little praise
For tasks they’re asked to do.
If they’re to lead a happy life,
So much depends on you…

I love poems like this, they really get you thinking. Do you know any more poems like this one ? I would love to hear them, maybe we can add them to the Kimbee  blog…

Homemade Food – Baby Recipes

I cook homemade baby meals for my baby girl, I then know completely what she has eaten (no hidden sugars or flavours) and how much she has eaten (no bulking up with water or other fillers).

Eating Baby you ever tasted jarred baby food? Well I can tell your from experience it’s very bland and all varieties do taste the same. I want my daughter to have a variety of tastes, so we can build on her diet and find out what food she prefers. I have heard that if a baby does not like something the first time it is offered, give it to them on different occasions up to 10 times, normally before then your baby would have built up a required taste for it (it worked for with my other daughters).

By cooking for Lyla I can feel assured that she is getting a healthy balanced diet and it saves  a fortune on my shopping bill. Fresh food is exciting, packed with all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes essential for a baby’s progressive health. Unlike processed meals, homemade baby meals comprise mainly of fruits and vegetables giving a baby the very best start in early development.

We make mealtimes fun by:

  • eating together as a family at breakfast, lunch & dinner times, where possible
  • using baby sign language signs for milk, drink, eat, more? (i.e. more food? or more drink?) and all gone
  • using a catching food bib
  • I encourage Lyla to use a spoon by always giving her – her own spoon
  • We use bright coloured bowls, cups and spoons, (all BPA, Phthalates and PVC free) to entice her to her food

I am going to blog a variety of baby recipes from 4 months on that I have collected from all over and some I’ve made up, I will post them every week or so, if you too are like me and want to offer healthy homemade baby food to your little one, feel free to follow my blogs.

Recipe #1 – Pulp Potatoes

  • 1 large potato (about 125g)
  • Breast milk or formula milk

Peel and chop the potato add a little water; microwave on high powder to about 5 minutes. Alternatively, scrub the potato, prick and bake in the oven for about 40 minutes. Mash the cooked flesh with baby milk then puree in a blender. Add more milk for a thinner consistency. Serve lukewarm.

  • Makes approx. – 4 portions
  • Storage – 24 hours in the fridge; 4 weeks in the freezer
  • Preparation: 5 minutes plus 5 minutes cooking time

Let me know some of your favourite baby recipes, we can add them to the Kimbee  blog…
